We’ve compiled a comprehensive checklist to help you discuss and select all aspects of your digital scoreboard to help you make the right choice for your organisation.
Type of Scoreboard
Choose between a portable scoreboard that can be moved between fields or courts, a scoreboard fixed to the wall, or an outdoor field scoreboard installed with a standalone support frame.
- Portable – mounted on a trolley and can be moved between courts or fields.
- Fixed to a Wall – mounted on a wall (e.g. on a gymnasium wall) using mounting brackets.
- Standalone Support Frame – installed in a concrete footing slab roughly 2m from the ground (typically used for outdoor field installations).
Scoreboard Screen
There are two broad categories of digital screens.
- Fixed Numeric Digit Display – can display scores, electronic team names, game timers and more.
- LED and Video Display – a more technically advanced scoreboard that can display all types of graphics including video and text.
Types of Power
The choice of power source will be influenced by your access to power and whether you require portability.
- Battery – suitable for portable scoreboards or where there is no access to mains power.
- Hardwire – the scoreboard is hardwired to a junction box and connected to mains power.
- Lead and Plug – power is supplied through a lead and plug connected to a standard power outlet.
Scoring System
Depending on requirements and the type of scoreboard, digital scoreboards can be controlled by:
- Wireless Handheld Controller – a battery powered handheld device designed specifically for sports scoring and timing. It has a simplified interface which works well to update the scores from any part of the playing area.
- Laptop – A laptop set up with all the software required (supplied by AusSport) can be used for scoring and entering information to the scoreboard. Any additional hardware such as USB dongles or wireless equipment are also installed.
- Tablet Controller – a tablet in a rugged backshell. An easy-to-use scoring interface allowing for scoring and text input from any part of the ground.
Location
- Indoors – Will your scoreboard be installed indoors in a gymnasium or sports hall?
- Outdoors – Will your scoreboard be installed outdoors (outdoor scoreboards need to be more durable and are designed to cope with all weather conditions).
Installation
- Supplier Installation – We can supply, deliver and install your scoreboard to save you all the hard work.
- DIY Installation – If you prefer, we can advise you on the install process and you can do it yourself (DIY). We provide you with easy to follow DIY installation instructions.
Support
- Ongoing Support – Will your supplier offer ongoing support? AusSport provides a technical scoreboard guide and offers lifetime support, so you can easily access technical support when you need it.
